Edward S. Curtis: The Women

There are other good choices for Edward Curtis books, but this is the one I like best. It has a short critical essay, and 100 plates of Curtis' American Indian photos, featuring women only, at a very good price. Each photo has a description in the appendix. The essay reveals that the photographs, although uniformly excellent, are not necessarily as authentic as they appear. These images may be more interesting and varied than the more common Curtis images of Indian warriors.
